Phoenix Art Museum July 12, 2009 —October 25, 2009
Two of my paintngs are on display on the third floor.
Locals Only showcases 12 Valley artists whose work in different media (paint, print, and sculpture) deal with issues of identity, the tension between high and low culture, and the shifts between representational and conceptual art practices.
This exhibition was organized against the backdrop of Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement, which will be on view at the Museum this Summer and deliberately explores how Metro-Phoenix artists work with the analogous themes and issues.
Artists:
Claudio Dicochea, Fausto Fernandez, Luis Gutierrez, Annie Lopez, Melissa Martinez, Monica Aissa Martinez, Martin Moreno, Hector Ruiz, Roy Wasson Valle and Dose, Lalo Cota and Mykil ZEPata.
This is the first comprehensive consideration of the legacy of Chicano art in two decades and the largest exhibition of cutting-edge Chicano art ever presented at Phoenix Art Museum

The exhibition opened on April 4th and will close August 23, 2009. We are particularly pleased as this exhibition comes on the heels of the grand opening of the new Frank Gehry- designed building. Arizona Biennials are considered the longest juried biennial in the state. Open to all Arizona artists over 18 years of age working in any media, the exhibition is a much-anticipated opportunity for artists in the region to gain broad exposure for their work. Arizona Biennial ’09 will focus on the current aesthetic and conceptual concerns addressed by artists both regionally and globally.
