Phoenix Art Museum July 12, 2009 —October 25, 2009
Two of my paintngs are on display on the third floor.

Locals Only showcases 12 Valley artists whose work in different media (paint, print, and sculpture) deal with issues of identity, the tension between high and low culture, and the shifts between representational and conceptual art practices.

This exhibition was organized against the backdrop of Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement, which will be on view at the Museum this Summer and deliberately explores how Metro-Phoenix artists work with the analogous themes and issues.

Artists:

Claudio Dicochea, Fausto Fernandez, Luis Gutierrez, Annie Lopez, Melissa Martinez, Monica Aissa Martinez, Martin Moreno, Hector Ruiz, Roy Wasson Valle and Dose, Lalo Cota and Mykil ZEPata.

This is the first comprehensive consideration of the legacy of Chicano art in two decades and the largest exhibition of cutting-edge Chicano art ever presented at Phoenix Art Museum

BRAGG'S PIES FEATURES LOCAL MIXED MEDIA WORK in "SELF-CURATED" FORMAT . OPEN ON THIRD FRIDAY MAY 16

Braggs pie factory
1301 N grand ave
Phoenix az 85007
NW corner of Grand Ave and Mckinley st

Phoenix, AZ (APRIL 24, 2008) -- Bragg's Pie Factory, 1301 Grand Avenue, will be hosting several local artists (Fausto Fernandez, Promise Tangeman, Chris Miller, Tawni Shuler) who work in a range of mediums including collage, photo transfers and painting during the May 2nd First Friday artwalk, from 6 - 10 PM. The exhibit is part of a series of exhibits in which Bragg's Pie Factory co-owner Beatrice Moore has invited a local artist (in this case Fausto Fernandez) to display their work alongside other artists of their choosing. So instead of being removed from the final curatorial outcome, the invited artist-curator becomes part of the final exhibit as well as the catalyst for the context in which their work is exhibited.

"Andrew Brucker, Untitled" 2008 36x36

Installation at the ASU Art Museum.

Throughout josh six-week residency, josh green worked closely with the museum installation staff where I work. This project includes out crew Stephen Johnson, Chris Miller and Fausto Fernandez. Ordinarily displaying our work at the museum would be against museum policy as it represents a "Conflict of Interest," but in this particular case it was Ok'd to have it displayed as our work within the space is considered Josh Green Project.

ColdSweat offers an alternative program of dialogue and collaboration between contemporary artists, dealers, curators and collectors. The brainchild of Marilu Knode, former senior curator at the Scottsdale Museum of Art, the series provides a framework in which innovative new approaches to art making can find reception in new and emerging markets.

The 2008 series brings together artists, curators, for profit-dealers and non-profit spaces from Phoenix & Milwaukee.

Participating Milwaukee galleries include Brooks Barrow Gallery and Hotcakes Gallery. Brooks Barrow will be hosting Phoenix artists James Angel, Rachel Bess, Sue Chenoweth and Fausto Fernandez, courtesy of Modified Arts. The exchange series continues in May, when Modified Arts will host artists from Brooks Barrow Gallery
